SUMNER LIBRARY
Customer: Minneapolis Public Libraries
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Size: 14,800 square feet
Project Value: $3.7 Million
Construction Period: 2004-2005
Our Role: General Contractor
Project Scope: The primary elements of the project included restoration of historic reading rooms, the addition of a new reading room, new community spaces, and a new entrance.
The team at George F. Cook Construction proved it was capable of taking on the unique challenges of restoring a historically significant building. The Sumner Library, originally built in 1915 and funded by the Carnegie Corporation, is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota gave the library project an Addition/Expansion Award in 2005. The project also earned a Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Interior Rehabilitation of a Landmark Property Award in 2007.
“The Sumner Community Library was an ideal project for George F. Cook Construction because it was a highly complicated, detailed-orientated project. They staffed the project with a job superintendent who was an expert in carpentry and did not shy away from the exacting demands of the project architects. Their honesty, thorough workmanship and attention to detail made this a great experience for everyone involved.”

PRESBYTERIAN HOMES
Customer: Adolfson & Peterson Construction
Location: North Oaks, Minnesota
Size: 128,300 square feet
Project Value: $700,000
Construction Period: 2006
Our Role: Carpentry Subcontractor
Project Scope: The project consisted of new construction of a senior living complex. This facility included 44 assisted living units, 12 memory care units and 36 beds of skilled nursing care. The town center featured retail shops, a conservatory, kitchen, dining, recreation, and pool areas.
The project had a very tight construction schedule, which required that we supply the site with more carpenters than usual. It was essential to remain flexible and responsive to the job superintendent, due to the scheduling constraints and to address work as it became available. This project required expert carpentry skills to successfully execute detailed trim and millwork designs.
“I value the quality of workmanship and the level of self-management George F. Cook Construction brings to a project. Their project management and work execution capabilities improve scheduling and reduce the amount of additional supervision needed to get the work done. As a select bidder, we take a hard look at them even when they aren’t low bid because we understand the value and quality they will bring to the project. “

FARMINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

The high school was a complex project that required strong project management capabilities to ensure that all requirements were being met. Pre-installation meetings were required to determine installation methods that would satisfy the architect’s vision and the construction manager’s budget. The project experienced several changes and additions. We responded with detailed cost estimates, transparency and fair pricing. The customer’s confidence and trust was demonstrated by the way they continually expanded the scope of our work.
“George F. Cook Construction is an honest firm that offers a fair value to both the client and the contractor. We choose to work with them because we can trust them to deliver on their promise.”
